ABOUT US

This is to introduce ourselves. We are Nancy and Robert Beverage.

Nancy, an RN with a MSN, spent many years in acute care nursing and managing nurses at a world-class hospital in the San Francisco Bay Area. She now teaches Nursing at a college in Sacramento, CA, near where we live. She has spent much of the past 14 years caring for her disabled husband, Robert.

Robert, with a PhD in Business Administration, became disabled by septic arthritis, the result of a post-operative infection, left untreated, that he acquired in 1994. As a result, he has been disabled by his inability to perform basic movements without assistance and severe, chronic pain. He has become a “bionic man,” with artificial replacements for both shoulders and both knees. He has had extensive cervical and spinal disc damage and loss, plus severe nerve damage with concomitant pain, in his lower legs.

Shortly after he returned to work, in late 1994, he lost his position as a management consultant to customer senior management. He specialized in the application of information technology to improve business processes, and competitive intelligence). This happened as a result of a “RIF” (Reduction in Force).

We lost a beautiful daughter at the tender age of 31, because of the ravaging effects of diabetes she had had since the age of twelve. We are still trying to adjust to this loss, not totally successfully.

We have five grown children (one son, a Navy veteran of the 2003 Iraq war, and four daughters), plus three grandchildren.
